Going back to the 90s!

Going back to the 90s!

Hello lovely people! I hope you are doing well! Today I had the weirdest feeling ever… As I was going to work in the morning, listening to Wannabe from the Spice Girls of all songs (blame Spotify, not me!) and given the fact they have just started their tour, I thought how cool the 90s were! Back then I was a primary school student, I didn’t have a mobile or tablet, but I was incredibly happy and relaxed. So, I decided to create a post about all things 90s that I like (mainly the Spice Girls!)  and share it with all of you!

Fashion

I think back then, everyone and their mother was wearing bootcut jeans, capris and cargo trousers, like Mel C! Baby Spice’s pastel pink babydoll dresses, Melanie B’s animal print outfits, and Posh Spice’s high heels certainly made a difference not only to me and my peers, but I guess to teenagers everywhere! We loved them, tried to imitate them and I even had a friend once on Halloween who tried to dress up like Scary Spice! I will not talk to you about the results, but we certainly had a lot to laugh about! What I really admired though was Ginger Spice’s love for short mini dresses! I think her look (and all of them actually) really helped shape the whole decade. Ahh, good times!

Music

I think there is a running theme this year and this is going back to the 90s (cue credits!). Backstreet Boys, the Spice Girls, Westlife, Take That and even Bon Jovi will be touring this summer. Yes, I know that Bon Jovi didn’t start producing music in the 90s, but I believe that they started making a difference during that era and at the turn of the century, there was no-one that wouldn’t know “It’s my life” by heart! “I don’t wanna miss a thing” and “My heart will go on” were huge hits and you could play them on your Walkman or later, Discman! I used to have both of these and I cannot tell you how many mixed tapes I owned (and lost) during that time. I bet my mum still dreads finding cassette tapes at all possible (and impossible) spaces!

And don’t get me started on the Spice Girls’ “Spice Up Your Life”! I remember we danced it at primary school… I have a lot of fond memories of this song, or “Stop”, as well as girl power “Wannabe”. I think “Spice Girls” were my friends’ from primary school music group of choice. We loved their music, we followed their every step (and we didn’t even have access to YouTube back then); I still have some small stickers (attached on my door) of Spice Girls from Chupa Chups lollipops in my childhood room! I was that crazy about them! I think it’s so cool that they are doing a tour, after all these years that we’ve heard of it!

I think back then there was innocence in this decade that is truly missing from the decades after. Maybe it was because I was little and I saw everything rose-coloured. Who knows? The only thing that matters is that 90s is back with a vengeance! To all those of you Spice Girls fans everywhere, if you haven’t booked your tickets yet, do so! It’s going to be awesome!

Till next time,

Sofia-Maria
