Hey there you lovely people! I hope you are doing well, and so am I. It’s getting winter now, no? It’s getting colder and colder, but you know what that means! Winter means pumpkin spiced latte (thank you, Starbucks!), which means pumpkin, which means HALLOWEEN! To be honest I haven’t really liked Halloween (blame Supernatural! Every episode is Halloween all over again!), but I’ve come to appreciate it recently. Maybe it’s because grown adults put on their fancy dresses? Maybe because of the parties you can go to? Maybe it’s all the chocolate and sweets you can eat (oh yes, this is the one!)? For all these reasons (and many others), Halloween is one of the best celebrations!
While last year I took on a low profile and attended a house party in Hampstead, this year I went all out and joined my friends at a party at a place on Brick Lane, called I Mattoni. It was EPIC! The DJ played some of the best music from the 80s and 90s, we got a free drink and finger food, plus there was Happy Hour until 8! Can it get any better than that?!? We got there just after 6 (blame me! I didn’t want to be terribly late like the last time…) and stayed until 10. These were some four hours, but it didn’t really feel like it! You know how it is; great company, nice drinks and music, time easily flies!
For my free drink, I had a glass of prosecco (there’s definitely a pattern here), even though there was a choice of beer, white wine and red wine. After that, I Mattoni had some very interesting (and spooky) cocktails, like Monster’s Eye, Bloody Margharita, Black Cosmo and even Vamperol Spritz! I think though Monster’s Eye was the most fab one with vodka, blue curacao and three types of juice. You see, a cocktail doesn’t have to contain the most exotic ingredients, you can create something amazing with simplicity. To be honest though, I’d like to try each one of them, just to say I did!
And now it’s time for the fancy dress! I decided to dress up as a “cat burglar”, which means basically wearing black with some cat ears and an eye mask. Simple, but exciting no? Well, it would have been if I didn’t leave my eye mask inside my bag, but who cares? The point is to have fun, not be overly focused on the accuracy of the fancy dress, right?! I noticed though some exceptional ones, like a Wednesday Adams one (which I loved so, so much!) and my friends’ outfits. Giannis was dressed like Death (honestly it sounds scarier than it looked, sorry! ;-)) and Evelina had probably the best in the room! I will not say anything else, I will let the image speak for itself!
The music was the best though! If you know me, you must know how I enjoy these golden oldies from the 80s and 90s! Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, the Weather Girls and everything in the middle are the best to ensure a perfect party. No matter how old you get, you always would like to get up and dance with these kind of (dare I say) party anthems! But more about this kind of music next week, which I swear to you I cannot wait to talk to you about. The DJ was awesome I admit and I hope we will get to do another party like that sometime soon.
The food was tasty as well. Arancini, meatballs with sauce, bruscetti, some fried stuff (sorry can’t remember what they were for the life of me), were delicious and – most importantly – warm. Seriously it was like 5 degrees outside! Okay, obviously I am exaggerating, but the truth is that it was quite chilly out, with very strong wind. It’s always better to be somewhere nice and toasty!
A big thanks again for these guys that organise the best events around London (alright I feel I’ve said it many times before, but Giannis and Evelina and Neri strongly deserve it!). The atmosphere was nice, and we had such a lovely time, while we were there! I mean fair enough we stayed only for about 4 hours, and I know some people even continued the party afterwards in Central London. Nonetheless, it’s all about the company and people that are close to you that matter. And of course, no matter what you do, have fun and experience it to the max!
Till next time,
Sofia-Maria
PS: A huge, HUGE thank you to my friends Evelina and Nerantzis for the images!
